Ways to Connect with CLA Students
through CLA Career Services
We need YOU! Employers, alumni, and friends of the University of Minnesota are important resources for students in the College of Liberal Arts. We'd be happy to have you be a guest speaker in a career class, volunteer at one of our events, or more. See below for some of the ways you can volunteer or connect with CLA students....
Classroom and Event Speakers
Be a presenter, speaker or a panelist in one of our career-development courses or at an event. This may include discussing your career, providing advice on resumes and job searching, discussing the value of a liberal arts degree, or sharing your advice about how to make the best of college and other experiences.
Practice Interview Days
Volunteer to facilitate 45-minute practice interviews in our career office. By doing so, you help students prepare for behavioral-based interview questions, then provide them with tips about interviewing effectively and dressing appropriately.
Company Site Visits
Invite a group of CLA students to your organization for a tour and a brief presentation. This is a great way to connect with students and provide them with information about your organization, and to discuss the value of a liberal arts degree and the types of careers they might be qualified for.
Resume Critiques
Volunteer to spend a couple of hours at the CLA Career Services office offering resume feedback and tips to CLA students.
Informational Interviews
Be on a list of contacts willing to do an informational interview with students who are exploring career options. Students would ask you questions about your career to determine if that line of work is a good fit for them. Informational interviews can be done via email or phone.
Sponsor a Career Event or Resource
Increase your organization's branding with CLA students by sponsoring an event or resource for CLA students. Financial gifts of all sizes will benefit CLA students and increase your organization's name recognition with them.
